Papier-mache Dream
What happens when a lyrical, evocative photographer like Rudy Pessina enters the hangar of a histrionic and foolish creator of allegorical floats and puppets?
“Papier-mache Dream” is a tribute by a photographic artist to a carnival artist that recovers the ancient tradition of portraits of artists at work.
With this reportage Rudy Pessina has literally entered the creative and imaginative space of the Viareggio carnival master float-builder Gionata Francesconi and his collaborators.
He captures the patient art of construction, the humble manual work, the extraordinary technical knowledge.
He exalts the atmospheres suspended between a dream-like dimension and
material solidity, the variety of the works, at times grotesque, at times poetic, the conscious freedom that emerges from the act of creation.
The images are in a perfect balance between the multiform artistic style of Francesconi and the careful, sensitive eye of the photographer who creates his own work choosing subjects and shots, exposing details, revealing emotions, capturing symmetries, turning the space and the time of the creative process into a visual tale.
