The photography of Rudy Pessina, elegant and simple, use the black and white to investigate the matter and forms, enhance the play of light that draws the reality, to grasp the intangible mystery of human presence in relation to things and environments.
Traditional black and white photography, from studio and outdoor photography to printing.
The aim of the course is to become competent photographers, making photography a more enjoyable and satisfying hobby. 14 weekly lessons of three hours, covering all the necessary theoretical background and providing plenty of opportunity for practice. The participants must have their own camera, preferably with interchangeable lenses. Maximum number of participants: 9. A certificate will be awarded at the end of the course (valid for school credits).
Course programme
After a short theoretical introduction you will take pictures on black and white film and experiment with different photographic techniques, covering all the main aspects. You will take portrait and still-life photos in the studio, using artificial light, and reportage photos outdoors. At the end of every work-session you will develop the negatives and make contact prints and enlargements.
The technical and theoretical aspects that we will cover in the course are:
1 General concepts
-What happens when we take a picture: light, objective, film, developing, printing.
2 From photography to development
-instruments for exposure: diaphragm, shutter, exposure meter.
-focusing, developing and printing.
3 Light
-lighting techniques with artificial light.
-natural light.
Advanced photography course
The aim of the course is to improve photography and printing techniques in order to acquire professional-level skills. 10 weekly lessons of three hours. The necessary theoretical concepts will be introduced during practical demonstration sessions. Each participant will take pictures on black-and-white film and print them in 24 x 30 format. Participants must have their own camera, preferably with interchangeable lenses. Maximum number of participants: 9. A certificate will be awarded at the end of the course (valid for school credits).

Each participant will be able to produce a 50×80 enlargement, and two enlargements for each of the following types of toning: sepia, cobalt and selenium.
At the end of the course the best photos will be shown in a two-day exhibition/event organised in conjunction with the Imago Cultural Association.
